Sustainable custom packaging from EnviroPAK is one of the key tactics electronics product brands are deploying to attract customers at the point-of-purchase. Packaging design can overcome the “sea of sameness” on retail shelves to not only catch the consumers attention, but if that same packaging is sustainable, it can turn buyers into loyal brand ambassadors for the eco-conscious community.
From smartphones to computers, electronics packaging is known for its minimalistic, clean design – a brand strategy symbolizing technology innovation. It’s an example of how the right packaging from EnviroPAK can be a silent salesperson for effectively communicating an electronics brand image on the store shelf. Today, boosting electronics sales takes more than an eye appealing packaging design. Consumers are shopping for electronics and electronics packaging that is good for the environment.

Problem: Assembly time wasn’t on their side.
Ingenico credit card terminals handle payment transactions essential for businesses worldwide. Shipping these products on time, and without damage, isn’t optional with so much on the line. The challenge? The corrugate solution being used added a lot of packaging assembly time. In fact, it was taking too much time and costing too much money. That’s why they partnered with EnviroPAK to achieve the positive outcomes only molded fiber delivered.
Solution: Think fast.
Ingenico was in search of packaging to speed up the assembly, delivery, and better protect their credit card terminals during shipping. What the EnviroPAK engineers developed was a simplified two-piece molded fiber packaging solution that could be quickly pressed into place to secure the terminal (no folding required). This made assembly quicker, and repeatable. The custom packaging also included multiple designs for a variety of SKUs, which was perfect for Ingenico. It was just as good for the environment because the packaging material was 100% recyclable and 100% biodegradable molded fiber.
Problem: Looks count. So does sustainability.
Resideo was ready to launch their new, premium thermostat that featured a very clean design. And while they already had exterior paper packaging, what they lacked was an interior tray to lift the product to top of a window opening for a positive out of the box buyer experience. Beyond solving a hybrid packaging challenge, the tray had to be sustainable to fit Resideo’s vision of “A world where homes are good for the plant.” Creating packaging designed for good is what EnviroPAK does best.
Solution: A smarter idea for a smart home.
Since the Resideo thermostat tray had to create a positive buyer impact, EnviroPAK engineers selected premium finish molded fiber. The material produced smooth, aesthetically pleasing edges and surfaces. Extensive prototyping resulted in a snap-fit for securing the thermostat while positioning it at the top of the window opening of the exterior paper packing. There was even ample space on the underside of the tray for an assembly plate and hardware. Using molded fiber also enhanced the brand appeal of this hybrid solution since it is 100% biodegradable. That’s a smart way to go for smart home product packaging.
Problem: A beautiful product needed packaging that looked just as nice.
HUMMINBIRD® by Johnson Outdoors® is known for their premium fish finder technology products. But when they came to EnviroPAK, they were looking for something else. A packaging solution to replace the unappealing brand look of die-cut corrugate. In addition, it had to be easier to pack out compared to corrugate as well as enhance their “positive impact on the environment” mission.
Solution: Brand image. It’s everything.
When the EnviroPAK engineers first saw the premium HUMMINBIRD® fish finder, they were amazed at the gorgeous design. They took this first impression and created the same brand appeal in the packaging using premium finish molded fiber. Compared to die-cut corrugate, the edges were smoother, the surfaces were more aesthetically pleasing, and no time consuming folding was required.
The fish finder packaging was also designed with a molded fiber tray that moved the unit to the top of the box for improved consumer presentation. With so many positives, HUMMINBIRD had EnviroPAK convert four more product lines to molded fiber packaging – a sustainable material that aligned perfectly with their “Clean Earth Challenge” for keeping nature litter-free.
Problem: Foam packaging was not a good fit.
For Boca Systems, there were multiple reasons for replacing AB Chemical Foam packaging for their Lemur thermal printer. One key challenge was that this material formed inconsistently, so it didn’t properly “form fit” and protect the irregular printer shapes. In addition, foam packaging was faced with mounting safety and compliance regulations for protecting both people and the environment. A custom molded fiber packaging solution from EnviroPAK was a naturally smart choice in so many ways.
Solution: A positive packaging design takes shape.
As EnviroPAK began to engineer a custom packaging solution for the Boca Systems’ Lemur Thermal Printer, it was clearly a change for the better. The molded fiber packaging consistently fit the product shape for superior shipping protection. This good news was made even better since EnviroPAK offers a Tool for Life guarantee. So if Boca made slight printer modifications there was no packaging retooling charge. That’s thousands of dollars in savings over the life of the product. It was good for business and just as good for the environment since molded fiber is biodegradable and compostable. That’s why Boca Systems now uses EnviroPAK packaging with four of their printer models.
