Household & Hardware
Welcome home
to sustainability.
Packaging has a positive purpose for households and the environment.

Evidence of the consumer “go green” movement can be seen in product brands found in every room of a home. Just as essential is how the right packaging protects household goods and hardware during shipping so items are opened undamaged. And now, more than ever, consumers are also shopping for sustainable choices and want the packaging to be just as environmentally sustainable. This is a place where EnviroPAK feels right at home.

Sustainability has a place in every room of a house:
“Shaving our way to
a smoother tomorrow.”
“Force for Good.”
“Growing in harmony
with sustainability.”
“Reshaping the lifecycle
of our products.”
Buying with a bigger purpose in mind.

Consumers are “buying determined” with their focus on sustainable household purchases. Putting their money where their values are has resulted in many top brands around the world to react accordingly in areas such as packaging and the use of eco-friendly materials such as molded fiber.

“Investing in sustainability now sets you up for the next decade of success. If you fall into the trap of saying ‘we can’t really afford to do this right now,’ the opposite could be true – you’d fall behind for the next decade.”

McKinsey & Company, Global Management Consulting, 2023

Kaba Saflok

Problem: Protecting the product. Securing new cost savings.

For Kaba, shipping their commercial line of door handles and locks to installers free of damage and scratches isn’t an option. It’s a must. While these products required protection, any new packaging had to be engineered to provide a wide range of efficiencies such as reduction of warehousing storage space as well as parts consolidation that they couldn’t get from die-cut corrugated material. Complex? Yes. But EnviroPAK would make it possible, and sustainable.

Solution: The positives of smart engineering.

When EnviroPAK engineers started problem solving the new packaging solution for Kaba, the results were all positive. First, the packaging met the protection requirements during shipping. The EnviroPAK team also configured the molded fiber packaging design to consolidate Kaba’s part SKUs while ensuring the packing could nest when being stored. This saved over 50% in warehouse space. That was good for Kaba’s bottom line and it was just as good for the environment since molded fiber was biodegradable and compostable. That’s smart thinking.

SmartMouth

Problem: The packaging has to look as good as the product works.

Consumers turn to SmartMouth as their mouthwash brand of choice to eliminate bad breath, relieve dry mouth symptoms, and stop gingivitis. And while the company had brand loyalty, they needed brand growth through a new starter set that would be sent to influencers to increase sales. This meant that the packaging had to look as good as the product worked. And EnviroPAK® knew that molded fiber would deliver the results SmarthMouth required.

Solution: Molded fiber was the clean look this mouthwash brand needed.

EnviroPAK® had previously engineered a 2 bottle packaging solution for SmartMouth for direct-to-store shipments. It met functional and protection requirements, but this new packaging was being shipped directly to the homes of influencers. So, first brand impressions were essential to get this group to recommend the product to others. This is why EnviroPAK® utilized a premium finish molded fiber tray that had an out-of-the box “wow” factor. It also made a positive impression since it utilized environmentally friendly molded fiber.

Potter’s Crackers

Problem: The missing ingredient was sustainable packaging.

Potter’s Crackers are produced with locally sourced ingredients in Madison, Wisconsin. This product is certified organic by MOSA, a USDA accredited certification agency. What this naturally popular product lacked was secondary, environmentally-friendly packaging to contain the prepackaged crackers. The desired outcome was to create more brand appeal on the shelf to attract consumer purchase. For Potter’s Crackers, EnviroPAK® was the missing ingredient needed to solve this challenge.

Solution: Brand image. It’s everything.

When the EnviroPAK® engineers first saw the premium HUMMINBIRD® fish finder, they were amazed at the gorgeous design. They took this first impression and created the same brand appeal in the packaging using premium finish molded fiber. Compared to die-cut corrugate, the edges were smoother, the surfaces were more aesthetically pleasing, and no time consuming folding was required.

The fish finder packaging was also designed with a molded fiber tray that moved the unit to the top of the box for improved consumer presentation. With so many positives, HUMMINBIRD had EnviroPAK convert four more product lines to molded fiber packaging – a sustainable material that aligned perfectly with their “Clean Earth Challenge” for keeping nature litter-free.

MOEN®

Problem: Find a packaging solution to safely contain multiple product variations.

Part of the MOEN® strategic business initiative is to “improve customer responsiveness through speed, greater flexibility and higher predictability.” This same initiative also includes incorporating more effective and innovative business processes. Product packaging was one area where MOEN believed all these improvements could be made. This included a packaging design not just configured for shipping one product, but could be utilized for safely shipping multiple products.

Solution: Custom packaging that solves every application need. Making the impossible possible.

Simply put, the custom packaging MOEN® required was beyond complex. The engineers at EnviroPAK®looked at the custom packaging design as a puzzle that could be successfully put together every time using different faucet parts. The result was a cost effective solution configurable for 50 different parts that would ship safely since the packaging was tested to the breaking point for product protection. In addition to supply chain reliability, the sustainable custom molded fiber packaging aligned with MOEN’s “Path to Conservation.”

Schick® Edgewell Razors

Problem: Sustainable packaging was what regulations demanded, and customers were shopping for.

One of the major packaging challenges Schick® had to overcome was being in compliance with Canadian regulations that would soon ban single-use plastics. To get in front of this upcoming law, the company knew they needed to start searching early for a sustainable solution. But their eco-conscious customers were also demanding this change, too. Adding to the complexities were specific production requirements and large quantity demands. For every challenge EnviroPAK® could provide a solution.

Solution: Razor packaging that cuts out single-use plastic packaging.

With Schick® razors, consumers get a super close shave that leaves nothing behind but smooth skin. What was being left behind was single-use plastic packaging that would soon be banned under Canadian law. With a molded fiber packaging solution, EnviroPAK® was able to help Schick comply with environmental regulations. Other engineering positives included how the molded fiber packaging nested for shipping cost reductions and it worked better than the previous material for complex pick-and-pack automation. The brand image benefited as well since premium finish molded fiber is 100% biodegradable. And that’s what eco-conscious consumers want to purchase.

Edgecraft Knife Sharpener Frustration Free Packaging
EdgeCraft

Problem: Reduce costs and warehousing space.

The objective for EnviroPAK was to engineer molded fiber packaging for an existing kitchen countertop knife sharpener. Sounds simple, but it was far from it. The complex challenges included that the new solution had to fit within an existing box footprint and be designed in a way that would protect the product, but also reduce warehouse storage space. Plus, since this was for a premier outdoor retailer, the packaging material had to be sustainable to support their brand mission of conserving the great outdoors.

Solution: A clear cut positive outcome.

When the engineers at EnviroPAK began developing a prototype design, the first obstacle to overcome was ensuring the packaging provided a snug, secure fit for the knife sharpener. This created a secure and protective hold on the product during shipping. Cost reductions were achieved since each unit nested on top of the other. Now more units could be placed on pallets for economical shipping. And the 100% biodegradable molded fiber packaging was sustainable, making it the ideal choice for enhancing the outdoor conservation efforts of this premier outdoor retailer.
