New Legislation Banning Polystyrene Drives Interest in Styrofoam Substitutes

Polystyrene can be recycled, but experts say it is laborious and not economically feasible, costing $3,000/ton to recycle. Recycling facilities tend to avoid handling the material; it takes up a lot of room on trucks and can easily contaminate more profitable recyclables when it breaks up.
