Article Labels Recycling Practice as Inefficient and Ineffective
There has been a growing narrative as of late that was further exacerbated in an article written by John Tierney in the New York Times titled, “The Reign of Recycling.” The piece questions recycling and accuses the practice as being an inefficient, ineffective economic drain. Some are labeling this article as an inaccurate, shortsighted though framed with only a corporate, profit-driven lens. There are others, however, who are seeing the article as a realistic examination of the United States’ current recycling infrastructure.
The most eco-friendly solution is to avoid packaging altogether. The problem is this is too much of an altruistic ideal. There is a necessity for packaging in today’s product environment.
